A new master syllabus template for all
credit courses at MCC is required for
Winter 2008-2009 and all
following quarters.
Background
Our mission at Metropolitan Community College is to serve our
community with distinction. We are a role model in higher education. We
will deliver:
- Quality learning opportunities.
- Lifelong educational programs.
- Services that support personal and professional enrichment and
training.
- Programs and services which stimulate economic and workforce
development.
- Courses and programs which provide a transferable path to
baccalaureate institutions.
- Career/vocational education supporting business and economic
partnerships.
- A positive learning environment that promotes student success.
The course syllabus is one of the first college
documents a student is exposed to in depth. A course syllabus is more
than just a description of the course, student requirements, learning
activities, course objectives, assessment measures and grading. The
syllabus should be designed to improve the teaching and learning
process. The syllabus supports the
college’s mission, vision, and expectations. Careful crafting of the
syllabus will ensure students' expectations for value and quality are
met.

Updates
To adjust the campus, hybrid, and online syllabus
templates for the new WX and FX procedures that will be implemented in
Fall Quarter 2009, we have drafted some simple, optional statements and
a required, short phrase substitution (in shading below) to fit under
the following main syllabus section.
INSTRUCTOR’S EXPECTATIONS OF STUDENTS
ATTENDANCE/PARTICIPATION POLICY:
If relevant to your course, explain how
attendance, active participation and/or timely submission of assignments
affects learning and grades. Instructors may also point out that to
remain eligible for financial aid, students are responsible for meeting
Satisfactory Academic Progress standards.
(optional syllabus statement:)
Students who attend no class meetings up to and including the Section
Census Date published in the Class Schedule at
www.mccneb.edu/schedule/ may be disenrolled from the class. There is
no appeal for this disenrollment.
(optional syllabus statement:) A
student who fails to meet class attendance expectations may receive a
final grade mark of FX, indicating an absence-related failure, or a
failing (F) grade.
STUDENT WITHDRAWAL:
If you cannot participate in and complete this
course, you should officially withdraw by calling Central Registration
at 402-457-5231 or 1-800-228-9553. Failure to officially withdraw will
result in either an attendance-related
failure (FX) or failing (F) grade. The last date to withdraw is
noted in the CLASS IDENTIFICATION section of this syllabus.
