Katie Stahlnecker
Katie is the director of and a consultant in the Writing Center and teaches in the English department at Metro. In May 2007, she completed her Ph.D. in Composition and Rhetoric with an emphasis on writing center theory and pedagogy.
Suzanne Barrett
Suzanne received her MA in English Literature from California State University Los Angeles, where she began her teaching career. Most recently, she taught at Istanbul Bilgi University in Turkey. This fall is her first quarter teaching writing at Metro.
Kay Burke
Cindy Catherwood
Cindy teaches English and Humanities and is MCC's Curriculum Design Studio Coordinator. She has a special interest in teaching with technology, and she runs Metro's online Writing Center.
Sara Lihz Dobel
A poet and creative writer, Sara Lihz teaches Reading & Responding, Comp I & Comp II. She also has a fat cat.
Shelley Donnelly
Shelley graduated with her MA from UNO and has been working at Metro, as a teacher and writing center consultant, since 2004.
Lorraine Duggin
Lorraine is a consultant in the Writing Center and teaches ESL Writing and Grammar at Metro’s South Omaha campus. She has an MA in English from UNO and PhD in English, Creative Writing from UNL and has taught comp, literature and creative writing at UNO and Creighton University among others. She is a Master Artist with the Artist in Schools Communities programs of the Nebraska and Iowa Arts Councils and on the Speaker’s Bureau with the Nebraska Humanities Council. She has published her poetry, short stories, essays, and articles in magazines, anthologies, textbooks and newspapers, including Prairie Schooner, North American Review, North Atlantic Review, Short Story International, and many others.
Susan Ely
Susan teaches English at Metro and UNO. All levels and genres of writing fascinate her, but nonfiction remains her passion. While earning her Masters degree from UNO, she completed a nonfiction thesis entitled, "Apparitions: Essays on Revisioning my Faith, my Mother, and Myself." Currently, she is working to adapt her thesis into a collection of travel essays about her research of sacred spaces. Together, these essays illustrate how our spiritual behaviors transform environment, and likewise, how geography creates and influences our spiritual behaviors, especially through acts of ritual and observance. Susan lives in Omaha with her husband Josh and two maltese, Libby and Lulu.
Frank Ferrante
Frank is a Reading and Writing Specialist and Developmental Education, Reading, and Writing Instructor, and he is involved with Metro Student Success.
Dora Gerding
After teaching English in the Peace Corps in Africa, Dora graduated from UNO with an MA in English. She has been working in Metro’s Writing Center since the summer of 2006.
Eve Hermanson
Eve received a BFA from the Writers’ Workshop at UNO in 1984 and an MA in English at UNO in 1987. She has taught writing at UNO, UNMC, and MCC. She loves reading and writing and believes that feedback from other writers is one of the best tools for writers at every level.
Chad Jorgensen
Chad recently returned to Omaha after living in Milwaukee for the past two years. He teaches English at Metro and is writing a dissertation on the cultural history of the American college campus. He and his partner, Hollie, are the proud parents of Win, their daughter born in April.
Erin Joy
Erin is an English instructor and coordinator of the basic writing program at MCC. She enjoys working with students in the writing center as a consultant, especially with non-native speakers of English. Erin has an MA in Applied Linguistics and Teaching ESL from Iowa State and one in English from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. In her free time, she enjoys reading, cooking, and traveling with her husband Alvaro.
Jennifer Lambert
Steve Lovett
Steve Lovett teaches composition, literature, and creative writing classes at Metro. He writes fiction, poetry and songs.
Elizabeth Mack
Elizabeth holds a BFA in Creative Writing and an MA in English. She also has advanced certificates in Nonfiction writing and TESOL. She teaches English Comp at UNO and Developmental Writing at Metro. Her hobbies are camping, fishing, Royals baseball and writing. Her wishes are for a book contract and world peace.
Brett Mertins
Brett has taught English and Humanities classes at Metro for five years. He enjoys the one-on-one interaction that happens in the Writing Center.
Norah Morris
Norah is a Writing Center consultant and a part-time instructor at Metro. She has worked at Metro since 2003. She loves reading non-fiction and any newspaper she can get her hands on. She is married, has two wonderful children and a lovable mutt, and is grateful to be a teacher and work in the Writing Center.
Bobbi Olson
Bobbi received her BA in English from the University of South Dakota and will complete her MA in English from UNO in May 2008. Upon graduation, she will have a TESOL certificate and has done extensive work with ESL writers in three Writing Centers including Metro’s.
Kym Snelling
Kym is an English instructor and writer. She enjoys discussing writing with students and loves to watch them grow as writers.
Melissa Tayles
Melissa earned her Master of Arts degree from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. Before serving as an English Instructor and Writing Center Consultant at MCC, she worked as a TRiO Student Support Services Coordinator and English Instructor at the community college level for approximately four years.
Joel Thomas
Joel enjoys baseball and the blues. In his own work, he specializes in creative nonfiction. His favorite color is brown.
Marni Valerio
Marni received a BA in history and taught secondary school for several years before attending graduate school at UNO and earning an MA in English. She has taught writing at UNO and MCC and writes side-splitting essays about her family when they give her time, which they do not. She particularly enjoys the nature of working with individual writers at the writing center because a spirit of collaboration replaces traditional classroom pressures.
